McCain Pain…
Posted by kryptikos on February 7, 2008
Great, I just noticed that Romney dropped out and now the media is swarming and frothing that John McCain has all but secured the Republican nomination. Grrrrrr. I feel my choices rapidly falling away to the point that I am going to be again stuck with candidates that I neither trust nor respect. This feels like a repeat of 2004 to me.
I’ll go on the record as being a conservative Republican. But I’ll also go on the record that although I tend to vote Republican on issues (because generally Republican candidates reflect more of my beliefs and desires), I will vote for who I consider to be the best person for the job. John McCain is not the best man for the job as President of the United States. Course neither is Hillary…definitely not Hillary “Don’t call me Rodham because I need to win an election” Clinton…and I have reservations about Obama.
In 2004 I was dissatisfied with my Presidential, gubernatorial and Senate selections. I voted for Bush in 2000 because he was an outsider of the Washington establishment. He was more genuine to me with respect to who he was and what he wanted to accomplish as President. By 2004, although I was still behind him, I was disappointed with many of his actions and leadership. I flat out felt that there wasn’t leadership. It was more of an aroma of arrogance. I can only take a guess as to how truly difficult it is to be President of the United States, but no matter the difficulties I do expect to be kept informed of the true causes and reasons for the direction POTUS is guiding the country towards. It was as though the White House took the phone off the hook and forgot that they answer to me…the American citizen. A man who kept the likes of Donald “Don’t call me McNamara” Rumsfeld and his inability to effectively manage a two front war was unacceptable in my book. I never approved of the war in Iraq. To this day I still fail to understand how an axis of evil of North Korea, Iran and Al-Queda suddenly branched into the sudden need to go into Iraq. One can control a dictatorship through sanctions, periodic military force and influence of neighboring countries. One cannot control a theocracy. How do you challenge an ingrained fanatical belief? (I’ll leave that for another blog). However there was NO way I would have voted for John Kerry either. FRUSTRATION. In that vote I simply went with the lesser of two bad choices.
So now we are left with three. McCain, Huckabee and Paul. Note to Paul…why are you still there? You remind me of the Yugo. You can market yourself as an alternative car, you can claim that you’ll give better gas mileage but in the end you come across weak and whiny…you simply can’t compete with Detroit. You neither have the backing nor the money. Please stop taking votes away from better candidates this late in the game.
John McCain is an arrogant Washington insider who will work hand in hand with the Democratic Congress to push his agenda. His agenda are personal beliefs…not what is best for the country. Something that clearly irritates the fire out of me with politicians is how they suddenly become a “believer” in what the people believe come election time, but just as quickly forget that belief post-win. Think Romney joining the NRA and suddenly becoming an advocate for gun rights after being an advocate for gun control for the longest time. Suddenly “Mac” hears the people on illegal immigration and wants to secure the border. Whatever. John McCain wants amnesty for illegals. John McCain wants amnesty for enemy combatants. John McCain is a closet democrat. I’m short on time for this posting…but I will follow up with more reasons and facts behind this.
I will end this post with this: I am saddened to see McCain becoming the front runner. He’s a crotchety old man who has a temper and no great vision. Tell me where he truly stands out with a vision. Reagan said he always saw America as the shining city on top of the hill. Bush came with a sense of newness…being an outsider from the beltway, JFK came with youth and high ideals (think moon shot). McCain comes only with personal agendas. McCain is just another Washington insider who does not experience living check by check, does not deal with health care burdens, nor has to contend with the tough realities of the American middle class and poor. He’s just one of the guys/gals that creates all those policies and laws in Washington that actually affect we the middle class. He is not the right candidate for the Republican party. Everyone is claiming to be with and of Reagan in this race, sadly not one of these candidates can come close to standing with the great and gentle Reagan. He is not a man I desire to submit my authority to. He just is not a capable leader. I wonder if I can get Hillary’s lofty goal of universal health care to cover my McCain pain?
