Creating 3D Images With Your Eyes

Posted by kryptikos on May 29, 2008

There is no doubt that the human body is an amazing creation. I’ll admit, I’m not interested in medical things. I tend to zone out when medical shows come on. “Quick I need a CBC, QRT, right lateral bioscopic in-line rotorgirder workup” type comments tend to make me switch into stand-by mode. However, I do like learning facts about the intricacies of the body. It is amazing what the human body is capable of and without a doubt the single most incredible invention is our brain. There is plenty of truth in the statement that your mind is the most powerful weapon you have. Something I enjoy and have posted about before is the joy of working cryptograms, puzzles and visual games that test your brain’s capabilities. I’ve always found the more active my brain is, the more stimulated it is the healthier I stay. So I’m constantly looking to feed it not just good food, but good mental items to chew on. I stumbled across this today and thought it was well worth passing along…another brain entertainment type thing.

We all love 3D, yeah? Watching 3D animation, movies, or playing with holograms, it is fascinating feeding the information of texture, light source and shadows into our eyes to give us the illusion of depth. Perhaps you enjoy the posters of scrambled dots that when focused upon closely you can see the 3D image pop forward? Did you know you needn’t require any red/blue glasses or fancy poster with pre-arranged dots to get your eyes to create 3D images for your mind to interpret? Here’s how:

Listed below are a few images that have been split with just tiny offsets. By crossing your eyes you can merge the two images until a single image appears in the middle. By focusing on this merged middle image your eyes will create a 3D image. The middle image will yield depth and texture. I will say it does take a little bit to get used to (crossing your eyes is not something your muscles are used to holding), however once you master it the reflex becomes second nature and you can see the full 3D view quite crisply and clearly. There is no requirement for how far or close you need to be when looking at the images either. Although I did not experience any strain or headaches I’m sure that it is possible some people might experience that, but I assure you, take a break and try again, it is well worth the experience. Clicking on the image will open it full size and make it easier to view. If you still have trouble viewing it, right-click it and save it down to your computer then open with your own picture viewer. Once you master the focusing of the middle image you will really see the detail as the image pops forward in vivid 3D form.

My personal favorites are the red mushroom, the rock in the water and the statue. I found the most detail to be revealed with those.  So take a few moment and feed your mind some entertainment with the power of your eyes. Remember exercising your brain keeps you healthy. Enjoy!
